WHAT TO EXPECT DURING & AFTER YOUR PERMANENT MAKEUP SESSION
The entire healing process will take at least 4-6 weeks, depending on your body’s regeneration, age, immune system and lifestyle. Your new eyebrows/eyeliner/lips will go through several phases during the healing cycle.
The pigment will appear very sharp and vibrant immediately after the procedure. This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin, and has not yet settled in completely. For brows, the pigment will likely appear very warm, or golden in color temporarily- this is to prevent the brows from becoming grey or "ashy" looking, as permanent makeup pigments and tattoo inks naturally become cooler in color as it heals underneath our skin. The color of the pigment will soften gradually and look less warm. Do not be alarmed if you see some pigment on the cotton swab as you blot, as this is excess pigment and/or body fluid that is naturally exiting your skin. Any redness or swelling usually subsides within the first 24 hours.
Once the healing of the skin starts taking place, it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. This might give you the impression that the color pigment is fading too quickly, however, this is just superficial color and dry skin being naturally removed from your body.
Once completely healed, always apply a layer of sunscreen SPF 30 up to SPF 50 on your eyebrows when exposed to the sun. Sun exposure might cause the color pigment to fade away more quickly.
Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven (7) days post-procedure. Itching is a normal reaction as the skin is repairing itself. However, experience has shown that by following these after-care instructions, these symptoms may quickly disappear.
The healing of deeper wounds might last between 14-21 days. Touch-ups and/or correction of the shape/design is recommended ONLY after this period. Improper care often results in fading, or a ‘patchy’ look. Often, even with proper care, people can develop bald spots or lose some hair strokes, which will make the brows look uneven. It is absolutely normal because your natural skin regeneration process is not something the technician can control. That is why most people need a touch-up/perfecting session or even 2, after 6 weeks to assure that the treated area is perfectly even and the desired effect was achieved. Please note that the desired effect will need at least 2 treatments to be achieved. It is recommended to do a color-boost at 12 months to intensify the color. It is the sole responsibility of the client to take extra care to avoid infection and to consult a medical doctor if any symptoms of infection occur.
It is essential that you follow these instructions after your permanent makeup session. The way you care for them will have a great impact on the final results.
Day One (day of treatment): Wait 30 minutes and let the wounds weep lymph. After 30 minutes, you must gently wipe off the lymph with a moistened cotton pad, then apply a thin layer of post-care cream/balm with a clean finger or cotton swab. Repeat gently blotting the treated area every 30 minutes for the first 2 hours, then once an hour for the remainder of the day. At night, gently wash the treated area with warm water and mild soap like Dove- available in the skincare section of any drugstore. Wash your hands with a disinfectant soap before washing the area and/or applying the post-care cream.
Days Two - Four: Repeat the wiping of the area at least 2 times a day. At night, gently wash the treated area with warm water and mild soap. Wash your hands with a disinfectant soap before washing and/or applying the post-care balm.
**The following must be avoided during all 7 days post-procedure:**
-
Increased sweating. It is recommended not to sweat (heavily) for the first 5-7 days after the procedure. Sweat contains salt and can prematurely fade the treated area.
-
Practicing sports
-
Swimming
-
Hot sauna, hot bath, or Jacuzzi
-
Sun tanning or salon tanning. Absolutely no sun, sweating, or tanning prior to the procedure or after the procedure for 10 days. Do not have a tan/sunburn on your face prior to the procedure. The tan will exfoliate, taking color with it as it fades.
-
Any laser or chemical peels/treatments, and/or any creams containing Retin-A, Vitamin A, or Glycolic acid on the face or neck
-
Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micro-pigmented area in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of pigment
-
Performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning, where there is a lot of airborne debris
-
Spicy foods
-
Smoking
-
Drinking alcohol in excess, as it may lead to slow healing of wounds
-
Driving in open-air vehicles such as convertibles, boats, bicycles, or motorcycles
-
Touching of the eyebrow area, except for when rinsing and applying the post-care balm with a cotton swab
Before showering, apply a thin layer of post-care balm to protect the area from moisture. During the shower, keep your face away from the shower head. If you get the treated area wet, simply gently dry it with lint-free tissue or cotton.
For Lip Blush clients:
-make sure to keep the lips hydrated at ALL times
-drink all beverages (besides water) through a straw and avoid hot/spicy foods for the following 24 hrs
